Most children who are infected with coronavirus will remain asymptomatic. They are identified while screening if a family member is diagnosed with covid 19 infection.
symptomatic children generally present with the following complaints-
- Fever
- Running nose
- Cough
- Sore throat
- Loose stool
- Belly pain
- Nausea and vomiting
- Loss of taste and smell (older children)
- Loss of appetite
- Headache
- Body ache
- Red-eye(conjunctivitis)
- Fatigue
- Rash in hand and feet
- Ulcer inside mouth
Consult with your doctor when your child is diagnosed with covid 19.
Few children may rarely develop serious symptoms like
- Respiratory distress
- Grunting
- SpO2<94% in room air
- Chest indrawing(inward movement of the lower chest wall during breathing)
- Lethargy
- Convulsion (seizure)
- Excessive sleepiness or drowsy child
- Bluish discoloration (cyanosis)
- Pale and cold hands and feet(shock or hypotension)
- Unable to take feed orally
- Bleeding
